We're right in the middle of festival season here in Louisiana, especially in New Orleans where there are hundreds of festivals and events that take place each year. It's sometimes nice to get out of the city, so we've rounded up great festivals to attend throughout Louisiana.
Festival International de Louisiane - April 24-28, Lafayette
Gambit says this festival features a “variety of local, international and emerging musicians, theater performances, workshops, arts and crafts, family-oriented activities and more.” With free admission, it’s a great chance to get out of New Orleans and explore this alternative to Jazz Fest.
Highland Jazz & Blues Festival - TBA, Shreveport
The annual music and arts festival in Shreveport is a Louisiana favorite, kicking off mid September. Organizers plan to have more food, more artisans, and more surprises to unveil as they celebrate thirteen incredible years of music in the park.
Ascension Hot Air Balloon Festival - September 2019, Gonzales
Back for the fifth year, this unique festival combines hot air balloons, entertainment, music, food, fun and surprises. “On the lush green fields of the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center, you and your family can take in the sights of the festival in a relaxed and comfortable setting, while enjoying the rural, open spaces,” shares organizers.
Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival - April 12-14, Ponchatoula
For over 40 years the Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival has been attracting both young and old to its annual celebration of their legendary delicacy, the Ponchatoula Strawberry. The festival obvious features the delicious strawberries, but also other food and great music.
