Last Thursday was an economic development "game changer" for Baton Rouge and the surrounding eight parishes. The East Baton Rouge Mortgage Finance Authority, an orginization of which I serve as its Chairperson, went before the Louisiana State Bond Commission and received an unanimous vote of approval to expand its powers. For the last 40 years this organization's sole focus has been on funding mortgages for low to moderate income residents of EBR parish through bond issues. Now our powers include raising money in the financial markets to fund public or private projects such as building new schools, roads, hospitals and all types of infrastructure. Our new name is the "Capital Area Finance Authority." Watch for the name change on our building and for the new projects we will be funding. Some days are better than others: this was a "Great" day for economic development in our fast-growing, dynamic region.
